Looking back at my life I see many events, wonderful opportunities, and interesting meetings that appeared to be coincidences. When I looked again, I realized that a seed had been planted, if no where else, certainly in my mind. Then days, weeks, months or years later “it” appeared.
For example, I had thought about Peace Corps since I was 20 years old, never thinking I would actually go but at age 60 I did! Forty years in the making but circumstances collided to bring about a change to my life I could not have imagined.
Then there was the time I wanted to write my first book but didn’t know where to start, I felt the effort was useless. I held that dream but didn’t take action until one day I received a fax from Random House in London, England asking if I was interested in writing a book about Difficult People! I was scheduled to move there and was known for speaking on the topic but never expected to be asked to write a book. I was asked to write a proposal, three chapters, outlines etc., they approved it and we then signed a contract and my first book was brought to life. I was told by many people that this was unheard of but it happened to me.
For years I had visualized sitting at a table signing my then unwritten book as people lined up for a copy. The first time I did a book signing, I sat in amazement at how my dream had come true.
I had other events that seemingly came out of the blue, homes I purchased that initially seemed impossible, career opportunities opening up unexpectedly, etc. and in looking back at the pattern of my life I know that there are many more possibilites going foreward that I can only dream of now.
Nothing good has come to me when I was in a state of fear or pain. I have never been “rescued” from anything I wanted to avoid. I had to be in a positive place to bring about positive results.
I would love to hear of your “coincidences” or dreams that came true in a surprising way.
What dream, hope or unfulfilled idea are you harboring that, if you’re paying attention might come true? Remember, if it is fear of somthing happening that you’re living with, thinking about more often that you like, that could come true too. Look at what you want to have in your life rather than what you don’t want.
There is a saying, “If you want to see what you truly want in life, look at what you have – it is exactly what you want.” People say to me, “no I don’t want this,” and my response is “then it is what you believe you deserve.”
Obviously bad things happen to good people who hold good thoughts. I lost my Mom when I was 11, my daughter has MS, my house is under water (I’m holding on!) but in the midst of the muck, there are flowers that bloom………..we just have to look for them because sometimes their bloom is even more amazing than we initially could have imagined.
